Composting in Fort Greene Park

Not strictly food-related, I know, but since I'm out of town this week with nothing to post about otherwise, I thought I'd share this bit of community news.

Composting in Fort Greene Park: Important Community Meeting 3/28

This project is a victim of its own success! The all-volunteer, weekly compost pick-up at Fort Greene Park has been running for 3 1/2 years, and now takes 1000 lbs of food scraps every week. However, the 4 gardens that take the scraps every week are all at (or quickly reaching) their limits on space - so a new plan is urgently needed if this project is going to be sustainable in the long term.

We don't want to shut down composting at the Greenmarket, so we need your help figuring out how we can continue. We're holding a public meeting:

Saturday March 28
10:30 AM
at Madiba, DeKalb and Carlton

Neighborhood composters and others who want to see this project continue, please come!

Hi, I missed this meeting because I was quite sick. Anybody know what happened and how I can still get involved? I'm a big composting advocate and would like to see it instituted in more communities. Thanks! Christina
