Kinara II and Other Shenanigans

Things have been quiet in CHF land, with not much interesting eating or cooking going on as of late. We did quite a bit of grilling over Memorial Day weekend, but that was accompanied by quite a bit of drinking and not a lot of picture taking, so there's not much for me to really write about. I'm hoping to post some good grill recipes going into the summer, but I haven't had the chance to sit down and create a post about them yet.

We did get a chance to order from Kinara last night, and it was excellent as before. The deal they have for one appetizer and one entree along with nan for $11.95 is a pretty good value. Last night we had the chicken curry, chicken masala entrees with the chicken mali kebab and pekoras appetizers. Pekoras are described as "assorted fried fritters," but they all tasted pretty much the same and I was a little disappointed. They were great for making use of the various dipping sauces, though.

Neither the curry or tikka masala disappointed, however. I can now heartily recommend both along with the vindaloo I ordered last time.

I haven't tried Amin yet - does anyone have any opinions on how they compare? I'm really an Indian food novice and I'd love to learn more.

You eat Indian food like a hillbilly.

Kinara II beats Amin especially when you consider that the entire menu is half price between noon and four.

The lunch special really does look like a fantastic deal, even if it's one I can't really take advantage of most of the time.

My family is from India so I have grown up eating a variety of Indian foods (punjabi, gujarati, south indian foods). Anyways, I think Brooklyn has a disappointing variety of Indian food places. My favorite places are in Manhattan and Queens. Kinara is ok. I like their nan, vindaloo, tikka masala, and some of their veggie dishes. Their appetizers are a bit too "fried" for my tastes. I haven't been to Amin but have heard mostly bad reviews about them. I wonder how they stay in business. I heard that some Pakistani places near the Coney Island area have really good food but thats too far from here unfortunately.

If the pekoras I had were any indication, I'm right there with you on the "too fried" taste. They tasted overdone and lifeless.

As a half white- half Indian full on Indian food snob (I used to have my grandmother ship me home cooked food) , I suffered in this neighborhood until Kinara came along. When Amin's came, ok, it would do because there was nothing else, and their samosas are decent. But Kinara's kicks it. I'm not a big pekora fan to begin with so it's something i probably wouldn't order in the first place

Word to the wise... only Amin's if you are having a samosa craving and Kinara is closed for some ungodly reason.
